Vacation Home , Kickapoo River Valley, WI
Planned to be a weekend getaway, this compact building is situated at the edge of a forest overlooking a rolling meadow within a 60 acre piece of property. The design is intended to balance the client’s interest between a traditional cabin aesthetic and modern detailing. In an effort to merge sustainability and cost concerns, one of the design’s central goals was to use as much wood as possible from trees culled from the property’s extensive forested areas. Construction began in 2009, and various trees from the property have been milled for the timber structure, all interior finishes, the exterior siding and the porch materials.
